Trient to Tré-le-Champ (Argentiere) via Col de Balme
From Trient, climb to reach the French border at Col de Balme (2191 m). From the col the entire Mont Blanc Massif stretches ahead; the Chamonix Valley, the summit of Mont Blanc, the Aiguilles, the Mer de Glace and the Argentière glaciers! The route then continues via the Col des Posettes and Aiguillette des Posettes, with wonderful views throughout, then descend into the Chamonix Valley at Tré le Champ. It's also possible to skip the descent by taking the Gondola down to Le Tour and bus to Argentière or Chamonix, please see seperate entry- ''Trient to Tré-le-Champ via Le Tour'.

Distance: 11 km
Duration: 5 hrs
Ascent / Descent: 1069 m / 970 m
Map: IGN 3630 OT CHAMONIX
Guidebook: From Trient follow the minor road to re-join the TMB at Le Peuty. Page 105: STAGE 9: Col de La Forclaz - Tré-le-Champ Page 110: Follow the directions for the path down to Argentière
Notes: It is possible to shorten this stage by taking the variant described on page 109 to descend to Le Tour, the descent can be further shortened by taking the telecabine. I would not recommend this variant except in poor weather as you are descending through a ski area.
Transport: Optional telecabine to Le Tour. The telecabine and chair to Autannes operates from mid-June to the third week in September. Opening hours change slightly during the season but are normally 09:00 – 16:30. A single ticket for the chair and gondola costs around €25.
In the Chamonix Valley, all the lifts are operated by Compagnie du Mont Blanc and up to date opening hours and tariffs are available on their website here: http://www.compagniedumontblanc.fr
