This is a testing, but extremely worthwhile walk that will have you working hard after passing through Fornalutx, then see you enjoying a relaxing and long descent as you make your way back to Soller. The views from the top of the ridge are stunning, and worth the challenging climb.
This pleasant walk has you walking on a mixture of quiet country roads, stony paths and forest tracks. There is unfortunately, one long (over a kilometer) section on a busy road which can’t be avoided. This section is clearly indicated on your route notes, with the associated warnings. The biggest challenge today however, is the very steep and seemingly endless ascent after the village of Fornalutx. The best advice, is to take you time and to stop frequently to enjoy the fine views over the village and beyond over your shoulder. Take time to explore the pretty village before heading off.
There are numerous supermarkets near the town square in Soller, or alternatively there is excellent general store on the main square in Fornalutx where you can stock up for the day. There are a number of very pleasant cafes in Fornaltux, but after leaving the village there no further options for eating or drinking along the route until you are back in Soller (although the restaurant at the viewpoint Mirador de ses Barques is sometimes open). The climb out of Fornalutx is testing, so ensure you have plenty of water and something to nibble on when you reach the top
These maps and routes are designed to be used in conjunction with our traditional turn-by-turn route notes. We are have recently embarked on a conversion initiative to bring the two elements together, and this itinerary will be covered in due course.
In the meantime, using the two elements alongside each other should go a long way to ensure you have a safe, enjoyable and problem free day.
