Your walk today begins with a 15-minute transfer up into the hills inland to the vicinity of Bayindir Village. During your walk, you can take a swim at Limanagzi Beach and also at Big Pebble Beach which is just before the return into Kas.
For those who prefer to spend more time relaxing and swimming at Limanagzi Beach, the last 1.5 hours of the hike can be cut and a frequent water taxi can be used to return to Kas from the beach. (Payable locally at around €5). If you do this you miss an exciting section of the walk that takes in some ancient ruins, a short but steep climb up steps hewn from rock and some great views.
Some of the footing is a little technical on this route, so be sure to wear sensible shoes and have both hands free when hiking any of the more difficult sections.
Tip van de auteur
The heat and dehydration are the main risks on the Lycian Way, ensure you have at least two, preferably three litres of water per person per day, wear light and loose fitting clothing and a suitable sun hat. Factor 30 sun cream is recommended, particularly from May until the end of August.
There are some road crossings, always be aware of traffic and be sure to use a pavement/sidewalk where possible. Where it isn’t, walk on the right-hand side of the road in the direction of oncoming traffic.
Some of the ground can be uneven, with rocky/pebbly paths. Ensure you have suitable footwear and step cautiously when needed.
Much of the path is on clifftops and there has been some erosion, for this reason, the path is sometimes unclear, be careful of the drop and of loose rocks and edges to the cliffs.
Tips en hints
Food and Drink
You can get refreshments towards the end of the walk at Limanagzi beach, or at Kas. Alternatively, your hotel will make you a packed lunch if you request one.
Points of Interest
A small cove with a perfect oval bay, after a steep descent through an overgrown path you would be forgiven for thinking the beach will be deserted, however, there are many water taxis that take tourists from Kas this beach. It is still a beautiful spot, and you can get drinks, food and a comfortable sunbed to lie on in between dips.
The Lycian Rock Tomb
Upon leaving Limanagzi beach, the path quickly begins to ascend up some rough stone steps. There is an ancient rock tomb, small but well formed carved into the cliffs, and some bigger stone steps leading up the cliff face. There is a rope attached to the wall to steady your balance and it is a truly spectacular if short ascent. Be careful with your footing and be sure to use the rope to steady yourself.
Kas is a medium sized resort town with all the amenities you could need. The harbourside and lighthouse is very beautiful and there are daily trips to go scuba diving.
