Starting in La Pulente this is a long and simple coastal walk with minimal navigation but plenty of coastal views. Beginning with a long and flat path that follows the beach closely, you will drift inland at Le 'Etacq, passing through a nature reserve. From here, you rise steeply to the clifftops, and here you will stay for the rest of the day, winding through small paths up and down the crest of the cliff edge with a sharp drop to your left and the large expanse of the ocean opening up before you. Finishing in Greve de Lecq, a small village that is nestled at the foot of the bay, you will be greeted by golden sands and aquamarine ocean, framed and protected by jagged cliffs towering above you.

Tip van de auteur

Take some binoculars with you, there is an abundance of bird life and lots of rabbits to be spotted on the clifftops.

There is some clifftop walking, be very careful of loose rocks and do not go to close to the edge. When you do drop down to the beach, be aware of the tides.

There are some road crossings, always be aware of traffic and be sure to use a pavement/sidewalk where possible, where it isn’t walk on the right-hand side of the road,

Some of the ground can be uneven, with steep descents and muddy/boggy ground. Ensure you have suitable footwear and step cautiously where needed, the mud is especially tricky in wet weather.

Tips en hints

Food and Drink

There are not many food stops on the way, it is recommended to bring a packed lunch or wait for your lunch until you reach Greve de Lecq where there are two excellent gastropubs at the foot of the harbour.

Points of Interest

The fortified defences

Jersey is a heavily fortified island with coastal fortifications that date from different periods such as the English Civil War, the Napoleonic Wars, and Nazi Germany's occupation of the Channel Islands. The fortifications include castles, forts, towers, Martello towers, artillery batteries, and seawalls. Not infrequently, fortifications from one period are built on the site of earlier fortifications, or very near them, geography having remained the same even when firepower increased

Le  Pinacle

Le Pinacle is one of the most important prehistoric sites in the Channel Islands. It takes its name from a massive granite stack which rises out of the sea. It is visually impressive and it is worth reading up on its geological history.

Greve de Lecq

Greve de Lecq straddles the border between two of Jersey's parishes, St. Mary and St. Ouen.

The sandy beach is very popular during the summer, as are the two beach cafes and nearby pubs - perfect for a cold drink and a seafood dinner after a day on the beach!

Greve de Lecq car park

0.00 km - With your back to the La Pulente sign, facing the cliffs, TURN LEFT and join the path that runs alongside the road, take the first opportunity to join the paved path that runs alongside the seafront, this sometimes becomes less distinct but as long as you stay close to the shoreline you are perfectly on course

3.80 km - TURN RIGHT and then TURN LEFT to join the roadside path

4.70 km - TURN RIGHT, proceed for 200 metres and TURN LEFT

5.00 km STRAIGHT ON through the crossroads

5.30 km - TURN RIGHT off the road immediately after the pumping station and stay on this road as it turns to a path and then back into a road

6.20 km - TURN RIGHT and then immediately TURN LEFT onto the main road, take the RIGHT TURN ascending steeply off the main road 30 metres later

6.70 km - When you come to a T Junction in the road, take the straight in front of you, ascending to follow the cliff tops around the point. Ignore the turn-offs to the right and continue to skirt the edge of the cliffs, on the path and being cautious of the drop to the left. There are many crisscrossing paths here, and many interesting war monuments. Don't worry if you leave the path for a smaller path as if you follow the coastline the paths will reconnect.

8.80 km - Pass through the car park and BEAR RIGHT to continue on the path

10.50 km - Descend to the road, cross it and ascend the steps on the other side into the carpark, pass through the carpark onto a small lane bearing left, and then rejoin the small cliff top path as you BEAR RIGHT

13.30 km - Continue on this clifftop path until you reach a road and a T Junction, TURN LEFT descending towards the bottom of the bay

13.90 km - Arrive at the car park at Greve de Lecq, you have finished your days walking
