Cabane du Mont Fort to Cabane du Prafleuri
Embark on one of the toughest days along the route with its breathtaking views from Mont Fort via Col Termin to Cabane de Prafleurli.
Once you leave Mont Fort you are committed to two days of challenging trekking, which is consistently at a high level and can be affected by snow early in the season. You can look forward to a varied and interesting day of walking in the superb mountain scenery. The vast panoramas of the Combin Massif are a highlight as you cross the Col de Louvie and Col de Prafleuri to the refuge at Col de Prafleuri.

This is a committing and challenging day in the high mountains. Check the weather forecast with the guardian before setting out and take their advice.
Weather conditions can change quickly in the mountains - always be prepared and carry appropriate clothing; warm as well as waterproof layers, hat and gloves etc. Please see your information pack for a detailed packing list.
Under normal summer conditions, the walk should present no major route finding difficulties, but in poor visibility, or under threat of a storm, problems may arise on the Grand Desert stretch between Col de Louvie and Col de Prafleuri, where there is no real path other than a trail of cairns and paint flashes. Seek the advice of the guardian at Mont Fort in case of uncertainty.
If the weather/conditions are not suitable to continue on the WHR we suggest using the cable car to return to Le Châble and travelling by train to Sion, where you can overnight. The next day you can take a taxi/post bus to re-join the route at Le Chargeur/Lac des Dix or if the weather is still unsuitable take the bus to Arolla. Alternatively opt to travel straight to Arolla, a journey of 2.5 – 3 hours and spend two nights in Arolla, which has some great walking.
If you need to rebook/change accommodation please call our office so that we can do this for you.

While these GPS tracks are provided in good faith they are not accurate turn by turn GPS tracks and may vary from the guidebook description and signage on the ground. They have been compiled using a combination of mapping software, imported GPS tracks from walking the trail on the ground and subsequent edits. Please use them as a general guide and use your judgement on the ground.

Uitrusting
This is a serious mountain hike at altitudes largely over 2000 m so please bring appropriate clothing – even if it’s a sunny morning the weather can change to rain or thunderstorms in the afternoon. Bring plenty of food and water (at least 2 litres) for the day’s walk, along with waterproofs, warm layers and comfortable sturdy walking boots/shoes. You may also wish to bring poles to help with balance, and the ascents and descents.
