Ballinknockane to Gallarus Cross
After a scenic transfer to Ballinknockane (30 minutes) on the northern part of the peninsular you begin today’s walk. There is lots of gorgeous coastal walking today and you will really feel inspired by these pristine landscapes.
Say hello to a friendly local and visit the Gallarus Oratory and its Visitors Center en route. One of the most famous landmarks on the Dingle Peninsula and situated close to Gallarus Castle, the oratory is completely made of stone and it resembles an upturned boat. It was built between the 7th and 8th centuries and is the best preserved early Christian church in Ireland. According to local legend, if a person climbs out of the oratory via the window, their soul will be cleansed. This is, however, physically impossible, because the window is approximately 7 inches in length and 5 inches in width!
