Ardlui to Crianlarich
From the Ardleish passenger ferry drop-off on the east side of Loch Lomond follow Scotland's most famous long-distance trail north to reach the village of Crianlarich.
Your day begins with a short ferry ride from Ardlui across the waters of Loch Lomond to Ardleish on the Eastern Shores. You are now on the West Highland Way and your walk takes you north through Glen Falloch. You may glimpse the roe deer on the mountains. The trail climbs out of Inverarnan beside the River Falloch towards Crianlarich. Mighty Ben More and Stob Binnean provide a fantastic backdrop to your walk, and the views back down towards Loch Lomond are first class.
After heavy rain the sheer slopes of the glens gush with turbulent waterfalls that brighten up even the most cloudy day. Passing through the conifer forests you enter the Glen of Strath Fillan to arrive at the village of Crianlarich.

Veiligheidsaanwijzingen
Take your time walking alongside the Loch and be sure of your footing as the trail is rocky and can be slippery.
There are lots of stream/river crossings in today’s walk. There are stepping stones available to assist your crossing but these may be slippery. Take extra caution on these crossings. After heavy rains, there can be landslides along the section from Inverarnan to Crianlarich blocking the path. If there have been heavy rains please check for any updates regarding the path with your accommodation before departing.

***To help you follow the route with confidence we have provided these route notes to help you. The West Highland Way is well waymarked, but we strongly suggest that you follow the GPS tracks in the Macs Adventure smartphone app to ensure you have a safe, enjoyable and problem-free day. The daily maps can also be printed from the web version of the app should you wish to take paper copies with you.***
Arrive at Ardleish on the ferry from the Ardlui Hotel on a small jetty, where you pick up the trail, follow the trail marked 'with the West Highland Way markers to head north as you make your way along the Loch.
At the end of the loch, the path bears left and passes through Beinglas B&B and campsite heading for the A82 (the main road on the western shore of Loch Lomond). Follow the trail, it doesn’t pass by the Falls of Falloch, but in around at 1.5 km you should get spectacular views of this 30 ft high waterfall. Here the trail makes use of a restored military road as you cross the railway and A82 to trace the lower slopes of Kirk Craig arriving in the village of Crianlarich. Crianlarich (a 2 km return detour from the trail) has a couple of pubs, the Crianlarich Hotel, public toilets and an ATM. The viewpoint from the slopes of Kirk Craig hill is a lovely spot to stop for a picnic!

Uitrusting
Sturdy hiking boots, warm clothes and a waterproof/wind-break layer are all required. The weather can change quickly so be sure to take all equipment even if the weather looks OK. A waterproof cover for your rucksack is also useful.
Ensure your phone is fully charged; if you doubt the battery will last throughout the hike, it would be beneficial to bring a power bank.
This walk is isolated with few opportunities to buy food or water so be sure to bring enough with you.
