Make your way towards Bridge of Orchy on good paths and gaze upon the conical mountain Beinn Dorain.  After passing through the remote hamlet of Bridge of Orchy, a short two-mile jaunt up the road will bring you to the idyllic outpost of Inveroran.

The scenery, as you leave Tyndrum, is stunning and now that you are getting into your stride you will love the fast-going on the military roads. Initially you follow the valley to Bridge of Orchy with the magnicicent Beinn Dorain ahead of you and the railway on your right.

There is a steep climb as you leave Bridge of Orchy, but you are rewarded with some of the best views in Scotland (in our humble opinion). A short descent brings you to the isolated Inveroran Hotel.

Itinéraire

*** To help you follow the route with confidence we provide these route notes to help you. The West Highland Way is well waymarked, but we strongly suggest that you follow the GPS tracks in the Macs Adventure smartphone app to ensure you have a safe, enjoyable and problem-free day.  The daily maps can also be printed from the web version of the app should you wish to take paper copies with you. ***

Rejoin the trail at the junction near Tyndrum Lower train station and follow the West Highland Way thistle signposts north to pass the northern end of Tyndrum.  Alternatively, follow the A82 through Tyndrum and at 600 m turn right off the road after passing the Green Welly Stop to pick up the trail here.

Continue to follow the thistle way-markers north on good paths and tracks towards the hamlet of Bridge of Orchy, on your right-hand side you’ll pass Ben Odhar (a Corbett at 901m) and conical Beinn Dorain (a Munro at 1076m). The trail bears left, crosses the railway and passes the Bridge of Orchy Hotel at 10 km.  Cross the bridge to follow the trail into the forest and ascend to the viewpoint at Mam Carraigh – a great place to spot birds of prey soaring above the moor.  It is then just a short descent to reach Inveroran Hotel.

S'équiper

Sturdy hiking boots, warm clothes and a waterproof/wind-break layer are all required. The weather can change quickly so be sure to take all equipment even if the weather looks okay. A waterproof cover for your rucksack is also useful.

Ensure your phone is fully charged; if you doubt the battery will last throughout the hike, it would be beneficial to bring a power bank.
