Trochry to Dunkeld via The Hermitage
A transfer to Trochry, then a walk via the Hermitage into Dunkeld
Today a transfer brings you close to the small hamlet of Trochry, from where you can begin your walk to Dunkeld via The Hermitage, an area cared for by the National Trust of Scotland. It is a stretch of magical forest with towering Douglas firs and you can also visit the 18th century folly named Ossian's Hall. You may spot wildlife such as beavers as you follow in the footsteps of notable visitors of the past including Wordsworth, Queen Victoria, Mendelssohn, and Turner as you wander through this magnificent landscape.

On this route there is a stretch of road walking, however it is a very quiet and narrow road. There will be no pavement or grass verge, so please take extra care if cars do pass you by. The general rule is that you walk on the same side of the road as oncoming traffic, in order to avoid having your back directly to oncoming traffic. Be prepared to walk in single file and to stay as close to the side of the road as possible.
There may be sections where you will be walking through fields containing livestock. Be vigilant and respectful of all animals.

This is an easy to follow walk therefore no turn by turn directions are necessary. If you simply follow the blue dot you will not get lost. You can divert off the route to visit the Hermitage however.

S'équiper
We recommend sturdy waterproof boots or shoes with ankle support – steep steps, exposed roots and (if wet) slippery rocks can pose a risk.
Along with your usual kit for a day walking in the elements make sure you pack an extra layer, a full set of waterproof and windproof layers along with a hat, gloves and neck scarf (e.g. a Buff) in case the weather closes in. Suncream and midge repellent spray is also a good idea for the summer months!
