Inverness Castle
The castle sits on a cliff overlooking the River Ness in Inverness, Scotland. The red sandstone structure, displaying an early castellated style, is the work of a few nineteenth-century architects. There has been a castle on this site for many centuries. In April 2017 the north tower of the castle was opened to the public as a viewpoint. Your transfer will drop you off at Loch Laide. From Loch Laide follow a minor road for a few miles before branching off through the forest at Blackfold and following the Abriachan Trails before reaching a section of the Great Glen Way. The Great Glen Way is well-signposted so you shouldn't have any issues finding the way.
From Blackfold the descent towards Inverness and the Moray Firth begins. Rejoin the Caledonian Canal 1 mile before the end of the Great Glen Way. The Way turns right follows the River Ness into the centre of Inverness and Inverness Castle, which marks the end of your day on the trail.

S'équiper
Such is the way of British hiking, that you need to be prepared for all seasons and weather; hiking boots, warm clothes and a waterproof layer are all required, along with sun protection. Walking shoes may be better than boots for this section, as there are long sections on paved paths and forestry tracks.
Walking poles are not necessary on this walk with only minor ascents and descents, but you can bring them along if they are part of your standard walking equipment.
Ensure your phone is fully charged; if you doubt the battery will last throughout the hike, we recommend bringing a rechargeable battery pack.
