Today’s trek starts out by following the airstrip beside Rif. Sennes, then continues on route 7 along an old WWI mountain road (keep right at the first fork in the path) as you follow still-steep switchbacks on a 500m descent to Rifugio Pederü (1548m), which is ideally placed for a bite to eat. You’ll want to take extra care on this stony track/road if it has been raining, and your poles will come in handy! Admire views of the Sennes and Fanes massifs.
Continue on Route 7 up alongside a scree ‘bowl’ then the path levels out across the Valle di Rudo before climbing up the Valun de Fanes to reach a charming small hut serving refreshments; Ucia de Pices Fanes.
Continue on to Rifugio Fanes (2060m), located above the town of San Vigilio di Marebbe, in a karstic limestone bowl in the Fanes-Senes-Braies Natural Park.
Normally you will be staying at Rif. Fanes (check your accommodation details sheet, and note that this is NOT Rif. Malga Fanes Grande, which is further on the path).

Today you may be walking past a few different areas where cows graze. Although generally very docile and used to walkers, keep your distance and never turn your back on a cow that is behaving strangely or aggressive. Be particularly vigilant around cows with calves.
Watch the short term local weather forecasts. Avoid high altitude hiking when the weather is bad. There are plenty of trails in the valleys, that allow you to reach a village quickly if bad weather sets in.
Such is the way of Alpine hiking that you need to be prepared for all seasons and weathers; sturdy hiking boots, warm clothes and a waterproof/wind-break layer are all required, as is plenty of sun cream and a healthy respect for the sun.
Walking poles will be a big advantage on some of these ascents and descents.
Ensure your phone is fully charged; if you doubt the battery will last throughout the hike it might be beneficial to bring a power bank.
This walk is isolated with few opportunities to buy food or water so be sure to bring enough with you.
