Rifugio Fanes to Rifugio Lagazuoi
Walk from Rifugio Fanes to Refugio Lagazuoi via Passo Tadega and Forcella del Lago - an undulating day with spectacular views ending at the ‘Museo all’aparto della Grande Guerra’.
From Rifugio Fanes, continue along the AV1 route 11 passing shimmering Lago di Limo (2157 m). As you ascend the slopes of the Fanes group pause to admire the views to the southern mountain ranges and Marmolada. Crossing the grassy bowl of the Passo Tagéda, take the route 20B and climb the slopes of Forcella del Lago/Lechi* (2486 m). There is a steep descent on a path through scree, to Lago Lagazoi (2182 m). ***Please pay attention to the notes in your guide book and also below regarding this pass – it is quite a steep descent.***
From Lago Lagazuoi, ascend on a zig-zag path (turning onto route 401) to the rifugio that lies at 2752 m. Here in the Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti d’Ampezzo you’ll see remnants of the Austrian- Italian WWI front line. On the final ascent up to the rifugio, stop at the open-air ‘Museo all’aparto della Grande Guerra’ with its interpretation boards.
**Rock slides on not uncommon on this section, please check the signs locally as they are kept up to date if detours are required **

Consignes de sécurité
Some of the paths are along rocky steps; be careful as these may be slippery, especially when wet.
There are some exposed edges; be sure to read instructions carefully, stick to the main path, and don’t wander close to the edge. Use handrails where provided.
In early spring/summer there may still be patches of snow. Walk around where it is possible, and otherwise place your feet carefully and use walking poles if you have them.
This route is above 2,500 metres so bear in mind you may feel a shortness of breath and additional muscle fatigue associated with the altitude.
Conseils et recommandations supplémentaires
Please check before leaving Rifugio Fanes if there is any recent update regarding the pass at Forcela di Lech/Lago. If the path up over the Forcela is closed, you should walk down on route 11 into the valley to Capanna Alpina, then take route 20 up via Rif. Scotoni to rejoin the AV1. At Capanna Alpina there is a restaurant and picnic area with toilets, and you can either call a taxi to take you to Passo Falzarego, then take the cable car to Lagazuoi.

S'équiper
Such is the way of Alpine hiking that you need to be prepared for all seasons and weathers; sturdy hiking boots, warm clothes and a waterproof/wind-break layer are all required, as is plenty of sun cream and a healthy respect for the sun.
Walking poles will be a big advantage on some of these ascents and descents.
Ensure your phone is fully charged; if you doubt the battery will last throughout the hike it might be beneficial to bring a power bank.
This walk is isolated with few opportunities to buy food or water so be sure to bring enough with you.
