A train journey on the scenic Bergen railway takes you to the village of Myrdal this morning. Disembark and enjoy a walk down the “Navvies Road” to the charming village of Flam on the innermost reaches of the Sognefjord.

This winding downhill path starts off steeply, then eases into a more moderate descent, passing by a mountain farm and provides wonderful views of the surrounding valley. If you get tired, you can always jump on the famous Flam Railway, which almost shadows the route.

Please take lunch, snacks and water with you as there is nowhere to stop en-route. You can pick up food in Bergen or on the train. There is a café at Myrdal train station but opening times can vary. There is also a small café en-route in one of the farms which serves some hot drinks and pancakes, again opening times could vary so it is best to take plenty of food and water with you.

There are public toilets at the start of the walk in Myrdal, as well as a café and small souvenir shop. There is another public toilet at Berekvam Station which is about 9km into the walk.

Does the Myrdal station still transport baggage to Flam station for NOK50? We are taking train to Myrdal and plan to hike or bike down to Flam and just take bus from there to Voss.
