Leiwen to Neumagen-Dhron
Today’s stage offers far-reaching views even beyond the Moselland. Walk through renowned wine-growing areas such as ‘Trittenheimer-Apotheke’ and ‘Neumagener Rosengärtchen.
Finish the day in Neumagen-Dhron, home to the ‘Stella Noviomagi’, a Roman-style wine boat which has been built to original plans. Take a cruise on the river Moselle and experience the valley from another perspective.

Trittenheimer Apotheke - Take a detour to the extraordinary Sarkophage Winzer viewpoint in the Apotheker vineyard, spot two well-preserved sandstone sarcophagi from the late Roman times. The mantle of history has got over. In 1920, the question was asked who was buried there. Surely they know that they were well-to-do Romans because it must have been laborious to manoeuvre the heavy sarcophagi on the steep slope. Today the peaceful place is one of the most popular

Itinéraire
Leiwen is one of the most famous and largest winegrowing communities on the Moselle, with Riesling being the most prominent grape.
START your walk at the crossroads of Muhlenstrasse and Euchariusstrasse. Follow the markings as you leave Leiwen behind you. After 1 km you will have reached the Moselsteig again, which is marked by the tennis courts.
The Schantelbach stream accompanies you on your walk until you reach a hairpin bend on Weinbergswegen which hugs the side of the Güntersberg mountain.
Take a quick detour off the path to the Friendenskapelle Chapel to admire a magnificent view of the Moselsteig and the Obermosel (the upper Moselle) as the landscape begins to change. The vineyards on the Middle Moselle are much steeper and the river meanders its way through the landscape.
Spot Trittenheim, a village which lies on the flat slope on the other side of the river. Start your ascent through the vineyard, into the forest and across orchards as your ascent continues. Take a break at the refuge on your way up. On the last steep climb, the Moselsteig takes you past the holiday park, Sonnenberg which also has a wildlife park showcasing indigenous animals. Enjoy the view before descending again into the forest.
You will reach Zummethöhe, where there is at the road (K 128) and an access point if you would like to skip the ascent from Leiwen. Enjoy another fantastic view of the long Mosel loop, the Trittenheim and its vineyards. Continue along the side of the Little Dhron valley.
From the small rock crag at the hut at Vogelsang viewpoint, you can, once again, take in the sweeping view over the Moselloop. On the Römersteig theme trail, you can walk down to the slate caves and to Trittenheim's vineyard, the "Trittenheimer Apotheke"
As you continue along the edge of the steep cliff, dropping into the valley, you will have many opportunities to soak in the view before descending steeply in the forest.
At the Marterkapelle chapel, the Moselsteig again follows a Camino trail (Way of the Cross), which brings you to the outskirts of Neumagen-Dhron. Walk along the former railway line of the Moselbahn as you pass the marina and enter the centre of Neumagen-Dhron.
