Take bus No 1 to the La Rocque Harbour stop. The bus stop is right across from a yellow phone box on the harbour.
0.00 km – Start with your back to the yellow phone box at the harbour, opposite a minor road called Ru Du Pont. TURN LEFT along the main road towards St Helier, with the harbour on your left. Pass La Platte Rocque on your left and continue until you reach a tarmac lane (Jersey Green Lane) on your right, Rue de la Lourderie.
0.50 km – TURN RIGHT along the tarmac lane, Rue de la Lourderie, and continue down this lane lined with houses and fields, ignoring a lane on the left, La Petite Sente, until you come to a crossroads.
1.30 km – At the junction with La Rue au Long ahead, TURN LEFT on to Rue des Nouettes (Jersey Green Lane) and continue along this lane, passing between large greenhouses (look out for some of Jersey’s famous honesty boxes selling homegrown goods), until you reach a junction with the main road.
1.80 km – At the junction with the main road – CAUTION TRAFFIC – cross over the road and continue STRAIGHT AHEAD uphill on to a narrow tarmac path signposted as Route 8. Climb steeply uphill on this lane, ignoring a sharp turn to the left, until you reach a junction with a minor road, La Rue du Champ. During the spring and summer months, this lane may be brimming with butterflies – Jersey is home to around 36 species!
2.60 km – TURN RIGHT along Rue du Champ and start to walk downhill, watching out for glimpses of the coast on your right hand side, through the trees.
3.10 km – Emerge from Rue du Champ and TURN RIGHT downhill on a larger road – CAUTION TRAFFIC – passing a green water pump and bollards and your right hand side, and continue until a fork in the road at La Rue Malo, with a sign pointing right to the B37 and a sign with a red dot pointing left down a lane. (See Picture). BEAR LEFT downhill on the lane (Rue Malo), following the sign with the red dot, and continue to the end of this lane.
3.70 km – TURN SHARP LEFT at the end of this lane on to Rue des Fonds, ignoring a right turn on to Rue du Parq. Continue on this lane, walking through quiet fields lined with trees.
4.10 km – Ignore a turn on the right opposite a large house with a wooden gate, and continue STRAIGHT AHEAD.
4.30 km - TURN RIGHT on to a minor lane (Rue de la Haye du Puits), opposite the entrance to Le Clos De L’Eglise, 100m before reaching a main road. BEAR RIGHT at the school on your left hand side and continue until a T-junction at the end of the school building and across the road from white apartment buildings.
4.70 km – TURN RIGHT at T-junction and continue along the road until you reach the main road opposite the Pembroke Pub.
4.80 km – TURN LEFT along the main road – CAUTION TRAFFIC – and TURN RIGHT by the statue of famous golfer Harry Vardon. Continue straight across the golf links heading towards the seawall as quickly as possible, being very careful to look out for golfers taking a shot (you don’t want to get hit by a flying golf ball!).
5.40 km – TURN LEFT to walk on a faint and narrow path along the seawall. (This path is hard to spot but basically stick as close to the seawall and coast as possible walking along the edge of the golf course). Follow this right along the beach.
NOTE: An alternative to this path (which can be quite overgrown) is to drop down on to the beach and walk along there.
6.30 km – On reaching a beach kiosk (perfect place to stop for a snack or ice-cream!) on your right hand side, TURN LEFT on a sandy lane towards a car park and the road, reaching the car park on your right hand side just before the main road. If you wish to at this point, you can continue along the promenade to visit Le Mont Orgueil/Gorey Castle which is at the far end of the beach next to the pier.
6.40 km – Cross the main road at the traffic island and continue STRAIGHT AHEAD up Union Road.
6.60 km – TURN RIGHT at the end of Union Road and continue to the junction at the red post box and mini supermarket.
6.80 km – BEAR LEFT uphill to continue on the village main street, passing a few small shops on your left hand side and the Old Bank building (now a pub and option for lunch!) on your right hand side.
6.90 km – BEAR LEFT and uphill at the next junction. Ignore a turning on the left (Le Chemin des Maltieres), and continue STRAIGHT AHEAD uphill.
7.30 km – At the next lane junction, BEAR RIGHT uphill on a road with no entry signs (See Picture), and walk steeply uphill to the next junction, with the gates of a large country house on your right.
7.50 km – Ignore a sharp left turn and almost immediately, TURN LEFT downhill on a Jersey Green Lane between hedges until a T-junction.
7.70 km – At the T-junction, TURN LEFT and continue on the tarmac lane as it heads uphill, passing through fields.
8.10 km – At a crossroads, TURN RIGHT downhill towards a reservoir, which you should be able to see just ahead.
8.20 km – TURN LEFT when you reach the reservoir and walk uphill along a sandy path, following the path through the trees, with the reservoir on your right.
8.90 km – BEAR LEFT at the end of the reservoir, walking slightly downhill. Go through a wooden gate straight ahead, ignoring steps downhill on your right. TURN RIGHT downhill on a tarmac lane and continue until the next junction with La Rue Moulin de Bas.
9.10 km – TURN LEFT at a T-Junction along Le Chemin des Maltieres.
9.20 km – TURN RIGHT downhill on Le Cache des Pres and continue to reach the main road.
9.90 km – TURN RIGHT on to the main road then TURN LEFT on to La Rue des Fonds. Continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, crossing the junction with Le Close de L’Eglise on the right and La Rue de la Haye Du Puits on your left (you will recognise this junction from where you turned right earlier on today).
10.80 km – At a junction with La Rue Malo on the right, BEAR LEFT on to Rue de la Parcq and continue to the end of the lane, ignoring a turn on the left (La Rue du Marais a La Cocque). You will see a plaque memorial to Le Don Filleuil across the road.
11.30 km – TURN RIGHT along the main road – CAUTION TRAFFIC.
11.40 km – TURN LEFT along La Rue Au Long, passing a garden centre on your left.
11.90 km – BEAR LEFT at the junction as you reach the end of the garden centre building on to La Rue au Tchain, ignoring signs for Jersey Green Lanes to your right and straight ahead. As you continue down this lane, it will become La Rue du Pont.
12.90 km – Emerge from the lane onto the main road, across from the yellow phone box and back to where you started. Wait here for a return bus back to St Helier.
