The Macs App does a down-and-up semi-circular detour towards the main B road that cars use to cut through the Swaledale Valley - the reason for this is to stop off at a fantastic pub called The Punch Bowl Inn, which sits next to the road.
For those not bothered about visiting the Punch Bowl Inn, you can follow the trail at this waymarker that crosses behind the Punch Bowl Inn - this saves you from having to walk down the valley and back up a steep road to rejoin the trail. See attached map.
