Leaving Wantage take an alternative route avoiding the A338. Once back on the path it's fairly easy going to the wonderful town of Goring.
After leaving your accommodation in Wantage find the King Alfred Statue in the middle of the market square and standing back to back to him - head towards the flow of the traffic along Wallingford Street keeping on the footpath till you reach a roundabout where you will BEAR RIGHT and keep following Wallingford Street. At the second roundabout head STRAIGHT ON onto Charlton Road. Keep following the road until you reach a double roundabout and TURN RIGHT onto Lark Hill Road. Once on Larkhill Road follow it down till it meets the busier B4494 road. from here TURN LEFT then at the end of the trail TURN RIGHT and follow the track down (over a field) which will then bring you to the Ridgeway path again. The trail is easy to follow from here onward to Goring.
We strongly advise against walking along the A338.
For the purists you may wish to retrace your steps from yesterday to get back on the trail if you do not wish to cut out a small section of the trail. See documentation for this included route.
Alternatively you could arrange a taxi locally to drive you down the A338 and drop you off at the junction where the ridgeway continues.
