A morning transfer (30 mins) brings you to the Valparola Pass and the start of your first hike. Follow varied panoramic trails through meadows, past Alpine lakes and along rocky paths at the foot of Setsas mountain. The trail is undulating until you reach the open grassy expanse of the Pralongia plateau. Enjoy extraordinary views of the peaks and valleys of the Val Badia and the Marmolada glacier. It’s the perfect spot for a break before a pleasant descent to Corvara past grazing cows and ancient farming huts.

Author’s recommendation

Stop at Rifugio Pralongià to rest your legs and admire the Col di Lana and Marmolada in the distance.

Safety information

Today you may be walking past a few different areas where cows graze. Although generally very docile and used to walkers, keep your distance and never turn your back on a cow that is behaving strangely or aggressive. Be particularly vigilant around cows with calves.

Watch the short term local weather forecasts. Avoid high altitude hiking when the weather is bad. There are plenty of trails in the valleys, that allow you to reach a village quickly if bad weather sets in.

Turn-by-turn directions

You will be dropped off at Passo Valparola, from here start your days walk along trail nr. 24, direction Setsas summit and on to Pralongiá.

The narrow trail descends to a junction. At this point, trail nr. 24 bears right, as the trail continues to ascend and descend along the north side of the Setsas peak.

Reach a cave from where the trail climbs steeply to the next junction, from where you reach the summit of the Setsas (2158 m). Proceed on trail nr. 24 as you arrive at the ridge, Les Pizades to then descend towards Störes and Pralongiá. At the fork, continue on path nr. 23, which takes you to the Rifugio Pralongiá (2 h 30 min.)

Soak in the views from the Rifugio over the nearby Dolomites before starting your descent to Corvara (1h 30min.) via trail nr. 25. When you pass the Ütia Punta Trieste hut, you come to a junction. Continue on the right on trail nr. 24 descending into Corvara.
