Board the famous Oslo to Bergen railway this morning and disembark at Geilo, one of the most famous mountain resorts in Norway for a gentle walk around the Ustedalsfjorden.
After your train ride, enjoy a relaxed loop-walk around Geilo’s Ustedalsfjorden. The path has been developed over the past number of years to the extent that 70% of this walk is on gravel or concrete pathways alongside the fjord. Information boards are dotted around, providing details about the history of the area including information about the flora & fauna, early settlements and Viking burial mounds, all of which you can see evidence of.
This is a gentle walk with very little ascent, however there are sections where the path passes through extremely boggy area; be prepared to get your feet wet!
Waterproof boots are recommend, especially since the trail can get boggy if it has recently rained.
History/Fekjo Heritage Park: This walk provides information about the history of the area around the Ustedal Fjord. Brief snippets of information relating to farming, forestry, and iron production are interesting and concise. Particularly interesting is the Fekjo Heritage Park, a protected piece of land along the route which contains Viking burial mounds and charcoal pits.
