A relatively short day gives you plenty of time to enjoy the walking and especially the views from the Col de la Seigne, arguably one of the most beautiful and scenic mountain passes on the entire Mont Blanc. It also marks the border between France and Italy so, Benvenuti in Italia!

If you have stayed in Les Chapieux you can either walk the 5km up the road or catch the local shuttle to La Ville des Glaciers, which saves a 1-hour 5km uphill hike on the road. The Col de la Seigne (2516m) and lies a steep 750m above the Refuge des Mottets and is where you leave France for Italy. Just wait until you see the view! Stupendous! The trail descends through high alpine meadows to Rifugio Elisabetta in the Val Veni.

Notes:

1. If you are staying in Les Chapieux you have the option of walking up the road or taking the shuttle. I would recommend not taking the bus as otherwise this is a very short day. If you would prefer a longer walk I would consider taking a longer route which explores La Ville des Glaciers (perhaps via Refuge Robert Blanc)

2. Your bags cannot be transferred to Rifugio Elisabetta so remember to pack your overnight things in your day pack and you will be reunited with your main bag the following day.
