Another option for a short walk takes you to a nearby farmstead dating back to the 17th century.
The walk to Otternes Farmyard follows a quiet road out of Flam before joining a pleasant cycle path which is adjacent to the fjord. The views here of Flam and the fjord are beautiful. There is then a short but steep ascent up to the farm. The farm itself is a wonderful preservation area with a handful of picturesque traditional cabins and houses.
There is a Coop supermarket in Flam to pick up a packed lunch, as well as a few restaurants and food vans.
Otternes farm: is a collection of 26 houses and cabins dating from the 17th Century. The farm has been inhabited for 400 years and is a wonderful example of preservation and care of historic sites. The views of the fjord from the farmstead are also very impressive.
