From Cortina, escape into the calm of the mountains. You can take an optional bus, which will skip the first 6 km of the walk if you wish (there are details in your info pack).  After passing through the rhododendron forests the peaks of the Cinque Torri come into view and you'll soon reach Rifugio Averau (2413 m).  Then it’s a 20 minute climb to the oldest Rifugio in the Dolomites— Nuvolau (2575 m).

I suggest not always to rely the trail Integrieren map schon guides you in some parts along normal streets. On a Sunday this tour is very touristic. The last 4km offer beautiful views. We stayed in the refugio Averau which is highly recommended. Great service and nice environment.

A note to walkers: the MACS GPS app is not at all help on this segment. You will have to use your map after you take the bus to Passo Falzarego. From there you take 441 to Rif. Averau, and then up slope to Rif Novolau. The MACS notes don't detail any distances or features. Onward, he MACS GPS shows the trail from Rif. Novolau going due south over the Via Ferrata. While the notes recommend NOT going this way, the GPS does not show the alternative route. We found it difficult to locate (below Averau). The alternative trail is quite steep and requires care. Again, there are NO trail notes provided and the GPS is not useful until you reach Passo Giau.
