This alternative route via Fenetre d'Arpette is spectacular, yet much more demanding and should not be attempted in poor weather conditions. For an easier route, please see seperate entry 'Champex to Trient via Alp Bovine'

This demanding variant goes via the spectacular Fenêtre d’Arpette to the Trient Valley. Climbing to 2665m it’s a challenging and exposed route but worth every step. You will then end the day by descending to the valley floor and the small village of Trient.

Do not expect a “walk”. This is an increasingly steep scramble over boulders and scree. A test for your stamina...and your wedding vows. Took us 10 hours. Probably would take the easier route if we had it to do over. Take plenty of water; none for hours in middle. The last hour to Trient is a pleasant flat trail along an irrigation canal, but by then we were cooked. MUCH harder than Col de Fors variant.

Very tough climb over rock fields but magnificent views all around. Descent was Edward than expected going the TMB counterclockwise. Steep but the body was close to the mountain to support the walk holding to the rock.

Tough uphill climb over rocks then scree. Views are fantastic. Tough descent, and I definitely would avoid in bad weather. Tiring but exhilarating day.
