From Badiaccia you descend through a forested valley of century old chestnut trees and to the medieval hamlet of Volpaia, situated amongst vineyards and castles.Stop in for a glass of red at a fine Enoteca, and then continue on to Radda in Chianti.

I would also like to comment on choosing to NOT take the short cut. The non-short cut version was a trail that had not been hiked for a very long time. There was no evidence of trail maintenance this season. Might have had a better experience had we taken the shortcut.

You know, this hike was much longer than was indicated. 2nd hike that was not straightforward with distance and elevation. Seems macho. Would really prefer straightforward information of what to expect prior to the hike
