An alternative walk if you'd prefer an easier day, or if bad weather prevents you from being able to head into the mountains - walk from Kandersteg train station along the river down the valley to the nature park at Blausee.
Begin this alternative route from the train station in Kandersteg and follow riverside paths and forest tracks as you descend the valley to reach Blausee. The lake is situated in a small nature park (entry fee payable) with a restaurant where you can have a relaxed lunch overlooking this uniquely coloured lake. From Blausee you can choose to walk back up the valley the way you came, or catch the bus back instead.
Take your time and enjoy a relaxed day of walking down the Kander valley to reach the unique Blausee.
The route is shared with bikes and some farm vehicles between Kandersteg and Blausee so take care and give way.
As this is a shorter route you can bring a smaller bag if you wish containing the essentials – food, water, waterproofs, sunhat and sunscreen. There’s no need for heavy walking boots today if you are comfortable in walking shoes then we advise you wear those. The route follows gravel paths and wide tracks for most of the way, but if you usually use walking poles feel free to make use of yours.
