A steep ascent out of Zinal through farmland brings you high above the valley floor. Look behind you for views of the 4,000m peaks, including the Matterhorn on a clear day!
Hotel Weisshorn is a mountain hotel with an interesting history. Once the favoured stomping ground of late 19th century adventurers, enjoy the camaraderie and atmosphere while you tuck into the delicious house speciality- ‘tarte aux myrtilles’.
Take your time with the walk out of Zinal, which is steep. Take regular breaks to enjoy the views. Once you have walked through the tree line the route continues to ascend much more steadily.
Weather conditions can change quickly in the mountains - always be prepared and carry appropriate clothing; warm as well as waterproof layers, hat and gloves etc. Please see your information pack for a detailed packing list.
From the main street in Zinal, join Rue Mont Ferrier (which is the road parallel to the main street), Just after the téléphérique, follow the road round to the right. At the sign 'Les Liddes', turn left to climb out of the town.
The road soon becomes a walking trail and ascends steeply through trees and farmland. The ascent is steep and unrelenting, so be sure to take your time and take plenty of breaks. Once you come to a fork in the path, bear left and follow signposts for the Hotel Weisshorn. The ascent soon eases off a bit and although undulating the difficult part is definitely behind you! Hotel Weisshorn cannot be missed and is directly on the path.
