Return to Tignousa by funicular for the start of today’s walk; a circular route which visits the alpine lakes of Lac de Combavert, Lac de Armina and Lac de la Bella Tola. Each lake is as serene as the last and you will soon find yourself at the foot of Bella Tola, which at a height of 3,025m is the highest peak in the area.  The hardy may wish to continue to the peak for sublime views of the surrounding mountain range. Continue on the circular route and you will soon come across Cabane Bella Tola, a popular mountain lodge, also serving lunch. Why not try one of their gourmet salads topped with dried alpine flowers? (check opening times here: and always carry a packed lunch in case of unplanned closures)

Author’s recommendation

The optional walk to the summit of Bella Tola is hard work but worth the effort  on a clear day as the views are stupendous!

Tignousa Funicular Station

Turn-by-turn directions

From the funicular station turn right and follow the Planets Way trail that you walked yesterday, however this time you are walking in the opposite direction. You won't be walking on this familiar trail for too long, and you branch off before Hotel Weisshorn. Turn left and follow the path as it ascends  to the first lake, Lac de Combavert, which is slightly off the loop.

Continue on the path and you are soon at Lac de Armina, this part of the trail can be quite boulder strewn, so watch your step.

Next is Lac de la Bella Tola and soon after, you will come to a fork in the path and you have the option to take a steep zigzag path to the peak of Bella Tolla. On a clear day the views are well worth the extra effort! (about 45 mins from here to a hut at the end of the zigzags, then about another 30 mins to get to the summit, and about the same for the return)

Continue on the loop and arrive at Cabane Bella Tola, a beautifully located mountain hut that also serves lunch. From here it's a short and steep decent back to the Tignousa funicular station.
