0.00km - START POINT: Kinsarvik Fjord HotelUpon leaving the hotel, TURN RIGHT and cross the bridge, then TURN RIGHT again onto the road signposted for ‘Husedalen’.
0.20 km - Continue to follow the road as it ascends and BEARS RIGHT ignoring road on left.
0.30 km - BEAR LEFT onto the ascending gravel footpath which cuts out the bend of the road.
1.10 km - Ignore road on right and continue STRAIGHT AHEAD.
2.40 km - Come to a notice board which gives information about the Hardangervidda mountain plateau. Cross the bridge and river and continue on this small gravel road STRAIGHT AHEAD.
2.60 km - The river is now on your right side. You will see a derelict bridge on your right as well, it goes without saying- but do not cross this bridge! Remain on the1road and continue STRAIGHT AHEAD.
2.80 km - Come to a bench on your right, which is a nice spot for a break. Otherwise, continue to follow the gravel road STRAIGHT AHEAD.
3.00 km - Come to another information board about the Hardangervidda. You will start to see the first waterfall, Tveitafossen in front of you. Continue STRAIGHT AHEAD.
3.30 km - Shortly after another info board (this one about water power), BEAR RIGHT on road ignoring gated road bearing left and ascending. Here you will see the beginnings of the red ‘T’ way marking for this trail.
3.40 km - Arrive at Kinso Kraftverk (power station). Here you have wonderful views of Tveitafossen, the first of four waterfalls. When you are ready to move on, BEAR LEFT onto narrow woodland path indicated by red arrow wooden sign. Ascend.
3.60 km - Leave the woodland path and continue STRAIGHT AHEAD onto stone path that ascends alongside giant water pipe.
4.50 km - Ignore path veering left into woodland and continue to ascend STRAIGHT AHEAD on stone path adjacent to water pipe.
Shortly after, come to the end of the rocky path following the water pipe. BEAR LEFT onto gravel path.
4.70 km - BEAR RIGHT as the path ascends.
A few meters after this, you will come to another signpost about the Hardangervidda. Follow the path as it BEARS LEFT and continues into the trees.
5.10 km - Come to a rock with the red ‘T’ sign. Continue on rocky path as it BEARS RIGHT.
.50 km - You now have views of the second waterfall, Nyastolfossen. Continue to follow path STRAIGHT AHEAD.
4.10 km - Come to a clearing in the woods, underfoot the path is smooth stone (this can be slippy so be careful!) follow the path here as it BEARS RIGHT heading back into woodland.
4.90 km - The path had flattened out a little by now, there is a boulder on your right with the painted ‘T’ sign. Continue to follow path STRAIGHT AHEAD.
5.60 km - After descending for a short while you will come to the river and brilliant views of the third waterfall, Nykkjesoyfossen, in front of you. When you are ready to move on, continue on path as it BEARS LEFT.
5.70 km - Arrive at a small river. If the river is in spate and all stepping stones are underwater, you may need to walk upstream a little to find a more appropriate crossing point. Once you are on the other side of the bank, rejoin the path and continue to follow it STRAIGHT AHEAD as it skirts the larger river.
5.90 km - Arrive at a couple of cabins, and rather unexpectedly, a WC (composting toilet only). Continue STRAIGHT AHEAD on path between the two cabins.
6.40 km - Come to a fork in the path, the path that bears right cannot always be reached due river being in spate. Follow the path BEARING LEFT.
6.50 km - Cross a river then BEAR RIGHT following the stone path as it ascends.
6.70 km - Cross another river and come to some open land (this can be boggy). Cross boggy field and then BEAR LEFT onto stone path ascending (you can see a red arrow painted on rock from a distance). There is also signposting for ‘Stavali Turisthytte’.
7.10 km - You are now on bedrock and the beginning of the Hardanger plateau. From here you will have views of the fourth waterfall in the distance. We recommend spending some time here, stopping for a break and then heading back the way you came. Feel free to explore the area and get closer to the waterfall if you wish, but bear in mind that this is already quite a long walk with 7.10 km to return. The path is also not as well defined from this point on, so do take care if you choose to walk closer to the waterfall.
