From Spean Bridge pass by the Commando Memorial onto Gairlochy where you will follow the Caledonian Canal via Neptune’s Staircase along the Great Glen Way to Fort William.

Enjoy a lovely walk today, beginning with the impressive panorama of the Commando Memorial, as you make your way to Gairlochy. Follow the Great Glen Way southwest and continue along the canal towpath as it winds its way through stunning countryside above the River Lochy. You’ll enjoy the impressive eight locks of Neptune’s Staircase along the Caledonian Canal shortly before arriving into Fort William resting at the base of Britain’s tallest mountain, Ben Nevis.

Please be careful of traffic on the road from Spean Bridge to Gairlochy - as per the UK Highway Code it is best to walk on the right hand side of the road into oncoming traffic so that you are most visible to vehicle drivers. There are excellent views from this road over the surrounding countryside.Start
