We recommend an early start today to allow enough time for the route. In contrast to the high alpine slopes, the AV1 moves on across lush pastures and some scree paths on route 472 to Rifugio Passo Staulanza (1783m), which serves some of the best hot chocolate in the Dolomites—so we suggest you indulge yourself! There is a then short section of road walking (this is not particularly busy with traffic but please take care) until you turn off right at a hairpin bend onto route 568.

Finally, follow route 561, to pass a small farm café/restaurant (Pioda) before a steep climb into green meadows. Follow route 556 as you ascend with views to Monte Pelmo (3168 m), and Rifugio Coldai (2132 m).Enjoy a stroll around Lago Coldai up to a small pass, after which you’ll be following route 560 all the way to Rifugio Vazzoler.
