Due to snow on the trail, the stages between Formarinsee and Warth are not fully accessible yet despite local services working hard to clear the roads as fast as possible and to make the trails accessible.

We would like to give you this hike as an alternative so that your hiking experience will not be affected despite the winter-related restrictions.

Safety information

Today you may be walking past a few different areas where cows graze. Although generally very docile and used to walkers, keep your distance and never turn your back on a cow that is behaving strangely or aggressive. Be particularly vigilant around cows with calves.

Always allow enough time for your hiking tour. The specified walking times only refer to actual time spent walking. Breaks for photos and a rest need to be added to the specified times.

Make sure you find out about current weather conditions and keep an eye on weather changes. Thunderstorms can gather very quickly in the Alps.

Do not leave the designated hiking trails!

Turn-by-turn directions

Due to the long and harsh winter, the stages between Formarinsee and Warth are not fully accessible yet and the local serviced are working hard to clear the roads as fast as possible and to make the trails accessible. We would like to give you this hike as an alternative so that your hiking experience will not be affected by the winter-related restrictions.

From the main square in Warth, the path leads from behind the tourist office over meadows and forest roads to the Steffisalp Express. Here you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Walserortschaft Warth.

Continue on the Old Salt Road to Hochkrumbach, pass the Simmelkapelle as you reach the Kalbelesee at 1,650 meters above sea level. Follow the path past the Körberkreuz to the Körbersee, where the Hotel am See invites you for a rest.

Passing the well-maintained road you pass the Alp Museum "Tuf Tannberg (open Sunday and Thursday from 1 pm to 4 pm) and reach the Walser-Tor Schröcken. Return back to where you started in Warth at the end of your day.
