Turn-by-turn directions
Alight the bus at the 'Barrage de Moiry' bus stop and from here bear right to follow the 'low path' which hugs the shore of the lake.
At the head of the lake, cross the river. You can then either return to the dam on the low route, which is on the metalled road, in which case simply walk up to the road and turn left along it. Or you can take the high route (which is recommended). To do this, follow the signs to Lac du Glacier, which take you up to the road and along it for the last 200m or so. On reaching the car park, do NOT follow the sign “Tour du lac”, logical as this may seem, but take the route marked “Fetes d’août” directly up the mountainside.
On passing near to a stone hut, the path levels out and more or less follows the contours back to the dam, with a lengthy descent at the end. Also near the end, there are some rockfalls on the path, which need to be crossed with caution.
If you don't want to take the high route, and don't want to get the bus back either, continue around the lake on the low path.
