From Längenfeld you’ll hike uphill to the beautifully located Brandalm and then follow a panoramic path high above the Ötztal valley to Burgstein. Behind Burgsteif, a short, demanding climb to the Jagdthütte awaits you with beautiful views over the valley. The descent will then lead you back to the Ötztal valley floor. Walk parallel to the to the main road for a while, and then through the hamlets Winkle, Aschbach and Höfle to Sölden.

Safety information

Today you may be walking past a few different areas where cows graze. Although generally very docile and used to walkers, keep your distance and never turn your back on a cow that is behaving strangely or aggressive. Be particularly vigilant around cows with calves. 

Always allow enough time for your hiking tour. The specified walking times only refer to actual time spent walking. Breaks for photos and a rest need to be added to the specified times.

Make sure you find out about current weather conditions and keep an eye on weather changes. Thunderstorms can gather very quickly in the Alps.

Do not leave the designated hiking trails!

Tips and hints

Pick up refreshments at Brand Alm or Hochwald Sncack bar, but please bear in mind that opening hours can vary. Always carry enough food and drink to keep you going for the day!

Turn-by-turn directions

0.00 km - With the Tourist Office behind you, TURN RIGHT onto the main road and cross the bridge over the river.

0.20 km - Just after the bridge CROSS the road and follow the Oberlängenfelder Straße, which then becomes a road.

1.00 km - Take the hiking trail to the Brandalm TURN RIGHT and go uphill to the Brandalm.

2.10 km - After the Brandalm, follow the hiking trail in the direction of Burgsteig. After approx. 200m you’ll find the Ötztaler Urweg, marked by a red 12 on a white background. From here, always follow the Urweg signs.

3.80 km - Behind Burgsteig there is an ascent to the Jagdthütte, then back down into the valley.

8.60 km - Walk in parallel to the main road for a while

9.50 km - The Ur-Weg branches off to the hamlet of Winkle.

10.90 km - Carefully CROSS the main road and follow a parallel side road

12.50 km - CROSS the main road here again and there is an easy ascent to Brand. Further on, the Urweg will lead you through forests, meadows and scattered hamlets.

18.60 km - Arrival in Sölden.

Public transport

From the Pitztal on line 4204 to Imst Terminal Post. Change to line 4191 direction Sölden.

Get off in Längenfeld at the Tourist Information Office.

Equipment

Always wear good walking boots with a robust sole, and take waterproofs with you. Don’t forget to take plenty of water with you (at least two litres per person) and to protect yourself against the sun.
