Lovely leisurely hike through the idyllic Madautal valley to Hermine guest house.

This beautiful hike to the idyllic Madautal starts in Bach. Firstly on the road, which is only open to residents and the Madau taxi company. You can then hike along the beautiful panorama trail to the Hermine guest house in the secluded hamlet of Madau.

Author’s recommendation

There are no shops in Madau. Remember to buy provisions in Bach or Holzgau!

Today you may be walking past a few different areas where cows graze. Although generally very docile and used to walkers, keep your distance and never turn your back on a cow that is behaving strangely or aggressive. Be particularly vigilant around cows with calves.

Always allow enough time for your hiking tour. The specified walking times only refer to actual time spent walking. Breaks for photos and a rest need to be added to the specified times.

Make sure you find out about current weather conditions and keep an eye on weather changes. Thunderstorms can gather very quickly in the Alps.

Do not leave the designated hiking trails!

0.00 km - From the bus stop in Bach follow the road and the trail signs to Madau. You will need to walk about a third of the distance on the road (only open to residents, almost no traffic).

3.20 km -TURN LEFT on a marked footpath downwards and on a bridge across the 64m deep Madau Gorge. From there, the scenic mountain trail leads to just before Madau. The last part of the way is back on the road.

7.00 km - Arrival in the tiny mountain hamlet of Madau at the Hermine Guest House.

Decided, reluctantly, to choose this option rather than cross the Lechtaler Alps because of the weather. Recommended path closed due to rockfall so had to make the journey on the road. Buses from Bach to Zams involve 3 changes but good connections.
