WAYMARKER - Continue on paved road for Shorter alternative walk over Greets Hill
Waypoint · North East England · 297 m
This waymarker shows the point where you bear right onto the stony dirt track - this follows the standard Herriot's Wath path to Aysgarth via Apedale Moor. Alternatively, you can take a shorter route via Greets Hill, to do so, ignore the turn-off and stay on the paved road leading you to a trail on your right (marked with a fingerpost "BW") that starts ascending up Greets Hill.
The path that climbs to Greets hill can tricky to follow at times on the way so pay close attention to the Macs App (there won't a red line this time, but you can easily follow the dotted trail) towards the summit. As a visual cue, you can aim for the two cairns towards the skyline. After summiting Greets Hill (514m above sea level) the path downhill is much easier to follow and rejoins the standard route again at Dent's Houses.
