Place of worship in Maxton Kirks.

Maxton Kirk was gifted to the monks as Mertoun Parish was burned down by the English to spite the Scots for burning down Dryburgh Abbey - this was granted by Walter the Steward. There was supposedly a place of worship in Maxton Kirks place for almost 1000 years.

The headstones in Maxton churchyard show 17th and 18th-century emblems of mortality - deaths head, crossed bones and an hour-glass on its side. This represents the deceased time had run out.

Ein steiler Anstieg führt hinauf zu fantastischen Aussichten auf die umgebende Landschaft, bevor es stetig hinunter nach St. Boswells geht.
