An abbey established in the 1100s.

Established in 1138- Jedburgh Abbey was built over more than 50 years. It's close location to the English borders meant it was frequently targeted. Considering its close proximity to the 'troubled' English-Scottish border the abbey is still exceptionally well preserved. The abbey has Romanesque and early Gothic style architecture. The Abbey visitor centre has a good collection of artefacts from around 1100.

Another day walking along Roman roads and over the ancient bridges with pleasant views of the Cheviots leading you to Cessford Castle.
