Holy Island of Lindisfarne

Highlights of the St Cuthbert's Way

Spend some well-deserved time outdoors discovering the highlights of the St Cuthbert's Way on foot. This historic pilgrimage trail has been frequented by generations of travellers making their way to Holy Island. Set off at the foot of the Cheviot Hills in the market town of Wooler and enjoy the everchanging landscape. Wander through green forests with striking views, rural farmland and wide Northumbrian beaches on the coast. The walking distances allows time to visit the many interesting sights such as St Cuthbert's Cave, where monks took St Cuthbert's body as they fled from the Vikings. Cross the iconic tidal causeway to Lindisfarne and spend two days exploring one of Europe's most famous Christian sites.
