You will also be crossing a few roads on today’s walk. Even if the roads are quiet, look out for cars when crossing.
You are responsible for your own safety. Know your limits and follow signs and instructions at all times. Off-track navigation is not recommended.

0.0 km – With your back to the church, walk STRAIGHT ON and follow the road downhill as you follow the path to rejoin the Ötztaler Urweg.
0.2 km – At the fork with “Neudorf” bus stop, TURN LEFT onto the road “Neudorf”. Follow the road and cross under the main road.
0.5 km – At the roundabout, TURN RIGHT onto Antoniusweg. Walk along this road until you leave the village.
0.7 km – At the end of the village, at the junction with Erlangerweg/Achrainweg, BEAR LEFT onto Erlangerweg. Follow the gravel road downhill and cross the river. Follow the road as it curves to the right.
1.2 km – At the large junction with the Elsa Pflug wayside cross, TURN RIGHT. You’re now back on the Ötztaler Urweg. Follow the signs for Leiersbach and walk parallel to the river for around 1.5 km. You’ll pass a fountain on your left and cross a bridge across a tributary of the Ötztaler Ache. Ignore the paths that branch off to the right and left.
2.6 km – At the fork in the road in Leiersbach, KEEP RIGHT. Follow the signs for Östen/Tumpen and the red and white markings of the Ötztaler Urweg.
3.1 km – At the fork by the covered bridge, BEAR LEFT. At the end of the asphalt road, TURN LEFT. Follow the signs for Gehsteig-Alm and the red and white markings of the Ötztaler Urweg.
4.6 km – At the fork, TURN RIGHT onto the steep uphill path. The tree roots and rocks on this path can make it slippery in wet weather. Follow the red and white markings of the Ötztaler Urweg. You’ll see red and white markings painted on the trees. You’ll pass through two rope-guided sections. A good head for heights and sure-footedness are essential for this section of the walk.
4.8 km – At the junction with the gravel road, BEAR RIGHT onto the road leading downhill. Follow the signs for Tumpen and the red and white markings of the Ötztaler Urweg. Ignore the signs for Gehsteig-Alm.
5.6 km – At the fork marked with sign no. 3/0613, TURN LEFT onto a steep downhill path. You’ll pass a deer yard and eventually reach a gravel road. KEEP LEFT and continue downhill. Follow the signs for Tumpener Rundweg and the red and white markings of the Ötztaler Urweg.
6.3 km – At the fork, TURN LEFT onto a narrow path. At the fork for the Mother of God church (Muttergottes-Kapelle), continue STRAIGHT ON.
6.6 km – At the junction with the gravel road, KEEP RIGHT and follow the road downhill. Ignore the signs for Tumpen Burgstein.
7.0 km – On the asphalt road through the village, follow the road downhill into the valley. Follow the red and white markings of the Ötztaler Urweg. In the valley, TURN LEFT twice and follow the cycle path markings on the road and the signs for Piburger See.
7.5 km – At the fork after the small bridge over the stream, KEEP RIGHT and walk parallel to the stream for around 1 km. Follow the signs for Oetz. You’ll pass a bridge on your right.
8.4 km – At the fork with the bridge and sign no. 35, continue STRAIGHT ON onto the forest path. Follow the signs for Oetz and the red and white markings of the Ötztaler Urweg. Ignore the downhill path towards Habichen and the markings of the Ötztaler Urweg pointing right over the bridge.
9.0 km – In the valley, continue STRAIGHT ON. Ignore the signs for Habichersee and the red and white markings of the Ötztaler Urweg pointing to the right. At the junction with the gravel road, TURN LEFT. Continue to follow the signs for Piburger See. Ignore the paths that branch off to the sides.
9.8 km – At the fork marked with sign no. 26, TURN RIGHT onto a forest path. You are now leaving the Ötztaler Urweg. Follow the signs for Piburger See until you reach the banks of the lake. At the lake, TURN LEFT and walk along the bank.
If you wish to visit the swimming area and Wirtshaus Seehäusl, turn right here instead.
11.1 km – At the fork with the large information board, continue STRAIGHT ON on the asphalt road. Follow the road uphill until you reach the village of Piburg. The first hotel on your right is the Hotel Seehüter’s Seerose.
11.6 km – You’ve reached Hotel Seehüter’s Seerose, your destination for today.

We recommend wearing hiking boots that are well broken-in, plus a rain jacket and waterproof trousers in wet weather, as well as taking sun cream and a hat on nicer days.
