***If you aren't using the shuttle / are overnighting at Kingshouse / or aren't stopping at Kingshouse please use the Inveroran to Kingshouse route for this section of the Way.***
The scenery, as you leave Tyndrum, is stunning and now that you are getting into your stride you will love the fast-going on the military roads. Initially you follow the valley to Bridge of Orchy with the magnicicent Beinn Dorain ahead of you and the railway on your right.
There is a steep climb as you leave Bridge of Orchy, but you are rewarded with some of the best views in Scotland (in our humble opinion). A short descent brings you to the isolated Inveroran Hotel.
Arguably the most scenic section of the West Highland Way; leave Inveroran and skirt Loch Tulla before joining the track across Rannoch Moor - a wonderful, lonely and exposed place that was once covered by a giant icecap and is today covered in bog. There is no shelter and in bad weather it can be exposed, whilst in good weather Rannoch Moor is simply inspiring. The 17th century Kingshouse Hotel affords the best views of Buachaille Etive Mor, Scotland’s most photographed mountain.
On reaching Black Rock Cottage in front of the Buachaille Etive Mor (Stob Dearg) mountain on the Rannoch Moor the route diverts briefly from the WHW to reach the Macs Adventure shuttle bus pick-up point in the Glencoe Ski Centre Cafe - you only need to use this service if listed on your accommodation sheet and you are staying in Glencoe village rather than Kingshouse Hotel.
In the Glencoe Ski Centre car park look out for the sign telling you when the next Macs Adventure shuttle bus will be leaving for Glencoe. Alternatively, the minibus itself may already be there, if so hop on and enjoy a scenic drive through the legendary Glencoe valley to reach your night’s accommodation.
The shuttle driver has a list of everyone who will be on the shuttle each day. If you think you won’t make it for the 17:30 deadline please call either the driver directly (+44 7968 248 508), or the Macs Adventure office with plenty of notice. In this case, the driver may wait or we can organise a taxi.
To reach Glencoe Ski Centre & Café from the Way:
The WHW path joins a minor road near Black Rock Cottage - at this point turn left onto the minor road and walk towards the ski centre car park. The ski centre has a small restaurant and café, overlooking the Rannoch Moor, so if you have time before the next shuttle we recommend enjoying refreshments here before your journey to Glencoe.

From Tyndrum to Bridge of Orchy you will walk along old military roads and alongside The West Highland Railway Line. Walking on the military road in this section can be tough on your knees and feet so take your time and enjoy your magnificent surroundings.
As there is little shelter for this section make sure you are prepared for all weathers. Carry a waterproof and some sun cream
Please take extreme care crossing the A82 road to reach Bridge of Orchy Hotel
If you wish to carry a hardcopy map, we would recommend buying the West Highland Way map from Footprints. Alternatively, you may wish to print the daily maps directly from our app.
If you wish to bring a guidebook, we would recommend Trailblazer's West Highland Way: Milngavie to Fort William by Charlie Loram.

Sturdy hiking boots, warm clothes and a waterproof/wind-break layer are all required. The weather can change quickly so be sure to take all equipment even if the weather looks okay. A waterproof cover for your rucksack is also useful.
Ensure your phone is fully charged; if you doubt the battery will last throughout the hike, it would be beneficial to bring a power bank.
