If you're not taking the transfer option from Loch Lussa into Campbeltown follow this straight-forward section of the route from the farm at the southern end of Loch Lussa on largely quiet roads into Campbeltown centre.  Follow the minor road from the junction at the end of Loch Lussa through open fields and forested landscapes to reach the main road (A846) into Campbeltown.

This section is entirely on the road so do take of traffic, especially on the quiet country roads where you may encounter quarry vehicles - walk on the right-hand side of the road into oncoming traffic and take to the verge to give way.  The roads in Campbeltown have pavements so please use these whenever you can.

Points of Interest

Campbeltown Cross

The end point of the route, the Campbeltown Cross, has been dated to the 1380s and is decorated with detailed medieval carvings of Celtic origin.  The cross was once locate at a religious site in nearby Kilkivan before it was relocated post-Reformation to Campbeltown.

Glen Scotia Distillery

On your way into Campbeltown centre you'll pass Glen Scotia distillery.  Check out their website and book a tour if you think you'll have time to sop in enroute.  You can als call them on +44 (0) 1586 552 288.  The Campbeltown area has been a site of distilling since 1636, from here the tradition developed in complexity and grew with many illicit distilling operations on the Kintyre Peninsula throughout the 18th and 19th centuraries.

Springbank Distillery

Another of Campbeltown's distilleries Springbank distillery is also located in the heart of the town.  Owned and run by the Mitchell family for 5 generations the family moved here to the area in the 1660s and began distilling shortly after.  Onsight they now run a variety of tours that you can book online or call +44 (0) 1586 551 710  book if you have time to visit enroute.

Food & Drink

There is nowhere to refuel with food or water between Loch Lussa and Campbeltown so you'll need to bring plenty of food and water for the walk.  There are lots of places in Campbeltown where you'll find food: shops, cafes, hotels and restaurants.

Wegbeschreibung

0.00 km - At the junction at the south end of Loch Lussa with a wooden hut building on your left and a track going of to the left continue STRAIGHT ON along the minor road.  Continue with the field on your left and the forestry on yout right-hand side.  

3.80 km - After following the gently undulating road continue STRAIGHT ON as a road to Calliburn joins on your left-hand side.  Continue to follow the road passing some cottages on either side of the road then ascend on the minor road  past Calliburn Quarry taking care of any large quarry vehicles.  

7.40 km - After passing between the cottages at Dunmore come to a T-junction with the A846 main road.  Cross the road being especially careful of the fast-flowing traffic then TURN LEFT onto the pavement on the right-hand side of the road to follow the road signpost into Campbeltown.  

8.10 km - TURN LEFT to follow the Carrdale road signpost onto Dalaruan Street, passing the hotel on the corner on your left-hand side.  

8.80 km - Just after passing the Glen Scotia distillery on your left-hand side TURN RIGHT onto Princes Street, you'll see the sea ahead, and continue STRAIGHT ON passing the childrens play park on your right-hand side. 

8.90 km - 100 m BEAR RIGHT onto the road with the sea on your left and continue towards the war memorial statue ahead.  

9.20 km - At the next junction TURN LEFT towards the harbour and continue on the pavement with the Royal Hotel on the cornr ahead. In 100 m at the Royal Hotel TURN RIGHT and finish with the Campbeltown Cross ahead in the town centre.
