Begin by climbing to Hillsborough for views over Ilfracombe before following a combination of paths along the coast, through fields, farmland and woodland. The route passes by a number of pretty villages including Combe Martin, Hele and Berrynarbor. Heading inland you gain altitude and walk through green fields which give great views of the coastal villages and towns below. The first half of the walk is where the majority of the ascents take place with the second half of the walk mostly downhill.

Although you will have to venture slightly off our suggested route, if you have the time and the energy take some time to relax in Berrynarbor, a beautiful village which has a few characterful pubs and some quaint tea rooms.

There are some sections of road walking, take care especially on narrow country roads.

Weitere Infos und Links

There are a number of places to stop for refreshments and meals along this route. Combe Matin has plenty of amenities including shops and cafes. As ever however, please carry enough snacks and water for the whole day.

Ilfracombe is home to one of England's oldest pubs, the George & The Dragon pub on Fore street is a nice place for a pint.

Points of Interest:

Berrynarbor is a rural and coastal village nestling on the slopes of a diverse, beautiful valley, rich in meadow, pasture land and wooded cleaves. Its name is derived from past manorial lords - the Berry and De Nerbert families. The focal point of the village is its fine church with lofty pinnacled tower, 17th Century lych-gate and original cobbled path.
