Your walk ends with the most challenging section of the Ötztaler Urweg, taking you right up into the mountains.

From the Ramolhaus Hut, you’ll make the steep ascent on gravel paths, rocky terrain and up a few sets of steps with safety ropes to reach Ramoljoch at 3187m. As you descend into the climbing village of Vent, enjoying spectacular views of the Ötztal glacier and the Similaun mountain.

This is an alpine route that requires you to be experienced in mountain hiking, be surefooted and have a head for heights. It can only be undertaken in dry, stable weather conditions and when visibility is good.

Only start this leg if the weather conditions are very good and forecast to remain absolutely stable.  This leg cannot be undertaken in rainy or foggy conditions, as it can be difficult to maintain your sense of direction and the rope-guided sections can be very slippery.

Check the latest weather information (for example by asking at your accommodation or the local tourist information centre) and be on the lookout for changes in the weather.

For your safety, you must be confident walking at heights and steady on your feet.

Concentrate on what you’re doing and keep your eyes on the path. Make sure to wear closed and sturdy footwear with good grip. You will be crossing a number of fields that hold livestock (including cows, sheep and horses). Always close gates when you’ve entered and exited the field. Keep away from the animals. Do not attempt to pet or feed them. Look out for any diversion signs in fields that contain cows with calves or bulls. Do not attempt to cross fields where such diversions are in place. Follow the diversion until you re-join the normal path. You are responsible for your own safety. Know your limits and follow signs and instructions at all times. Allow yourself plenty of time.

From the Ramolhaus Hut, you’ll be without a mobile phone signal for a number of hours. Ask the staff at the Ramolhaus Hut if the route to Ramoljoch is free of snow.

0.00 km – Cross the hut terrace and follow signs for Ramoljoch.

0.3 km – When you reach the boulder field, follow the red and white markers and the cairns through the field. If visibility is poor, it can be difficult to maintain your sense of direction here. You’ll pass some rocks marked with the words “Gas Ernest”. CONTINUE to follow the red and white markings and stick to the left-hand side of the valley. Don’t climb up to the right towards the head-high stone towers.

0.7 km – From here, you begin your ascent on the rope-guided paths up to the highest point.

0.8 km – You have reached Ramoljoch, the highest point on today’s walk. Descend on the other side of the ridge. Follow the red and white markings over the boulder fields until you reach the valley.

3.0 km – At the fork marked with sign no. 1/0296, TURN RIGHT. Follow the signs for Vent and the red and white markings of the Ötztaler Urweg towards Vent. (Ignore the signs for the Martin-Busch-Hütte pointing to the left).

7.5 km – When you reach the gravel road, TURN LEFT and pass through the gate. On the asphalt road on the other side, TURN RIGHT and follow the road downhill towards the bridge.

7.9 km – You have reached the main road bridge next to the Hotel Alt Vent Tyrol, your destination for today.
