Today a loop walk takes you south along the coast towards Gribben Head; past Readymoney Cove and Polridmouth where Daphne du Maurier lived in Point Neptune and Menabilly.

The walk starts in Fowey and heads along the coastline of Gribbin Head to the daymark on the point. The route takes in the beach at Polridmouth where the shipwreck was Daphne Du Maurier's inspiration for the murder scene in her book Rebecca and passes a couple more small coves including St Catherine's Castle overlooking Readymoney Cove. After reaching the furthest point, make your way back to Fowey along The Saint’s Way, way-marked with Celtic crosses.

Autorentipp

This afternoon why not indulge in a cream tea at the Fowey Hotel just as Daphne du Maurier did when she lived here.

Sicherheitshinweise

There are a few sections of road with no pavement. Walk on the right-hand side facing the oncoming traffic.

The path is rocky in places; take care as these may be slippery, especially when wet.

Much of the cliff line is unfenced. Be sure to keep away from the edge, stay out of fenced-off areas, and take extra caution when there is a steep slope beside the path.

The footpath borders a golf course for several kilometres. Stay alert with regards to possible stray golf balls.

Ausrüstung

Good comfortable boots or walking shoes are recommended. The ground can be quite soft, and the paths are well-used by walkers. Whilst the terrain is not particularly difficult, it can be muddy, with some waterlogged stretches after heavy rain. Walking poles are an option if preferred. The British weather is changeable, so waterproofs should also be carried just in case.

Ensure your phone is fully charged; if you doubt the battery will last throughout the hike/or if you have an older phone, it might be beneficial to bring a power bank as a backup.

There are opportunities on today's walk to buy food and drink; however, ensure you bring enough snacks and fluids with you.
