This low route avoids the long ascent up Goatfell, Arran's highest hill, a good option if the weather isn't favourable or if you'd prefer an easier day to begin the walk.  The low route passes a sandy beach at the north end of Brodick Bay, skirts Brodick castle, before following forest tracks to reach the village of Corrie. The final section of the trail follows a quiet coastal road to Sannox.

Look out for seals around Sannox Bay, they can often be seen basking on the rocks.

Sicherheitshinweise

Part of this route involves walking on a main road with no pavement. Although it's very quiet make sure you walk on the right hand side so you're facing any on coming traffic and take to grass verge, giving way to motorists when necessary.

Points of interest

Goat Fell

The highest peak on the Arran and one of the four Corbetts on the island, standing at 874m (2866ft). Corbetts are list of mountains around Scotland compiled by John Rooke Corbett, ranging in height from 2500 - 3000 ft.

Brodick Castle

Teeming with history and surrounded by mountains, Brodick is every inch the quintessential island castle. The present building was fashioned in 1844, but the seat dates back centuries to when its strategic position overlooking the Firth of Clyde made Brodick a fortress to be reckoned with. The castle was the ancient seat of the Dukes of Hamilton and contains a fabulous collection of valuable artefacts.

Food & Drink

There are a few food stores in Brodick to stock up on supplies, otherwise there is also a restaurant at Cladach Visitor Centre, a hotel/bar in Corrie and a tea room just past Sannox so you'll have plenty of choice

Wegbeschreibung

0.00 km – Starting with your back to the water, at the ferry terminal, TURN RIGHT. Follow the road along the coast for 1 km.

1.00 km – TURN RIGHT, away from the main road, following the blue sign for “Fisherman Walk & Arran Coastal Way”. Follow this path across bridges and wooden walkways with great views of Goat Fell and Brodick Castle infront of you.

1.70 km – Beware as you now cross a gold course. Watch out for golf balls and give way to players, continue STRAIGHT ON.

1.77 km – TURN RIGHT to cross the bridge then TURN RIGHT again to continue following the track.

2.50 km – BEAR RIGHT to walk directly on the beach.

2.80 km – Near the end of the beach TURN LEFT away from the water and cross the wooden bridge.

2.90 km – Continue STRAIGHT ON to cross the carpark of the Arran Mountain Rescue Station then cross the road to pass Cladach Visitor Centre.

3.00 km – Continue STRAIGHT ON through the carpark and past the footpath to Brodick Castle, then follow the wide gravel track uphill.  If you have time Brodick Castle is certainly worth a visit.

3.40 km – Cross the small tarmac lane and continue STRAIGHT ON as you follow the trail through the forest.

4.10 km – TURN RIGHT to leave the main track following the sign for Balmoral Ride then pass through a metal gate.

4.80 km – The track now becomes a wide, gravel forestry vehicle track. Continue STRAIGHT ON to follow the track.

5.40 km – BEAR RIGHT after crossing the wooden bridge as the track heads downhill.

5.90 km – At the junction TURN LEFT to follow the sign for ‘Corrie 4 km’.

8.70 km – TURN LEFT to continue following the descending vehicle track as you near the main road.

9.10 km – TURN LEFT onto the main road. The road is generally quiet but as there is no pavement it’s best to walk on the right-hand side facing into any oncoming traffic. Follow the coastal road for the remaining 3.10 km into Sannox village.

12.20 km – Finish the route in Sannox village just beyond a small cark park and next to a wooden sign for ‘North Sannox 2 km’.
