After a relatively difficult section of cliff paths out of Bouley Bay, the walk becomes easier as it descends into picturesque Rozel Bay with its old oyster fishing harbour. The perfect place for you to have lunch surrounded by fishing boats. After another short climb towards the Dolmen du Couperon, our walk takes on a more gentle gradient towards the mid-19th Century naval harbour at St Catherine’s. This has to be one of the highlights of your week as we pass Anne Port you will be greeted by the impressive 13th Century Mont Orgueil Castle, towering above the Royal Bay of Grouville. Gorey Bay Harbour area offers a selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants to rest your weary feet. Lunch stop will be at Rozel Bay. Bring a packed lunch/refreshments.

The 12th century Mont Orgueil Castle was built in the time of St John, but modified and used as a defence right up until WW2. Make sure you visit it and climb the ramparts - the history and the views are both quite humbling.

There is some clifftop walking, be very careful of loose rocks and do not go to close to the edge. When you do drop down to the beach, be aware of the tides.

There are some road crossings, always be aware of traffic and be sure to use a pavement/sidewalk where possible, where it isn’t walk on the right-hand side of the road,

Some of the ground can be uneven, with steep descents and muddy/boggy ground. Ensure you have suitable footwear and step cautiously where needed, the mud is especially tricky in wet weather.

Points of Interest

Mont Orgueil Castle

Explore one of the world’s finest examples of a medieval castle which has cast its shadow over the beautiful fishing village of Gorey for over 800 years. Take in breathtaking views of the French coast as you delve into the network of staircases, towers and secret rooms to discover hidden treasures.

St Catherine's Harbour

Originally planned as a harbour for the Royal Navy, to counter the threat of a French invasion, the breakwater was started in 1847.  A long harbour with a breakwater that reaches far out into the water.

Gorey Harbour

It’s one of Jersey’s best-known locations, a relaxed fishing village with its pastel-coloured cottages and alfresco restaurants, all overlooked by the medieval battlements of Mont Orgueil castle. Make like a local and spend a few hours over a long lunch in the sunshine, shop for some artisan food discoveries or experience Jersey’s history up close with a castle tour. Soak up the almost-French atmosphere – it’s not hard to get into the Gorey frame of mind and fall in love with the place.,_Jersey
