A short, but challenging route; the trail follows the shore to pass Preaching Cave over rocky and boggy ground before climbing up to the road and from here on it's undulating tarmac road walking with good views to Ailsa Craig, then pass the Lagg Distillery (opening at the end of 2018) before arriving at the Lagg Hotel, one of the oldest on the island.

The Velo Cafe is a very welcoming place to arrive for lunch or a snack. All their cakes are homemade and the coffee is delicious.

Sicherheitshinweise

Just over half of this walk follows the main road into Lagg - some sections are winding and undulating so take care to be visible to oncoming traffic. As with the other road section on the Arran Coastal Way the road is largely quiet but do take care and walk on the right-hand side (where possible) into oncoming vehicles, taking to the verge to give way if necessary.

Points of interest

Ailsa Craig

Steeped in history this volcanic island isn't hard to miss as it looms out of the Firth of Clyde. Quarried for it's rare blue hone granite to make curling stones the uninhabited island is home to Europe's largest gannet colony along with an increasing number of puffins.

Lagg Whisky Distillery

Still under construction the new Isle of Arran Distillers visitor centre and distillery will be opening towards the end of 2018. They are currently offering people the chance to join their Cask Society membership of which means ownership of one of the first casks to be filled.

There is a shop and bakery in Blackwaterfoot where you can stock up on food and water for the day's walk.  The Velo Cafe is a great stop once you reach Lagg - they serve delicious coffee and cake! You will also find the Lagg Hotel there for dinner and drinks.
