Your Scottish Coast to Coast starts with a truly world class day of biking. After a couple of miles of gentle canal side riding we throw ourselves into glorious singletrack behind the distillery and make our way to The Nevis Range and the man-made delights of “The Witches Trails” this man made forestry centre has miles of challenging singletrack and most riders will spend at least a couple of hours riding these fantastic trails.

Alternatively gravity addicts may wish to tackle the awesome Nevis Range Downhill Track which has gondola uplift and red and black graded downhill trails. After a few hours of fun you can enjoy a 15km spin on forest roads and singletrack to your overnight accommodation in Spean Bridge.

There are some busy roads on enroute, do not ride on the A82 out of Fort William – it is very busy and narrow and take care at the crossing of A82 at distillery.

Weitere Infos und Links

Fort William: There are all the amenities that you would expect from a large town.  Your trips starts beside a large supermarket for any provisions and there are restaurants, cafés and bike shops on the main street in Fort William.

Spean Bridge: There is a small local shop and restaurants as well as a pub in Spean Bridge.

Follow Great Glen Way (both a walkway and cycleway) signs to the Caledonian Canal and then follow the canal to Gairlochy, turn right at Gairlochy and cycle up minor road to Spean Bridge. There is a short section from the Commando Memorial to Spean Bridge on the busy A82.

Point of Interest

Ben Nevis – Scotland’s highest mountain at 1344m dominates the view to your right.

Fort William – One of the largest towns in the highlands is a busy place in the summer with numerous cafés, outdoor shops and the West Highland Museum ( tells the story of the West Highlands and her people.

Ben Nevis Distillery ( – You will go through the grounds of this distillery so it would almost be rude not to pop in for a wee nip to help you on your way.  If you have not had a distillery tour before, for a small fee it is worth taking the trip and seeing how the ‘Water of Life’ is made.

The Nevis Range Mountain Biking Centre & Gondola - - At Nevis Range (on route) there are cross country and downhill, lift assisted mountain bike trails. On a clear day you should consider taking the Gondola to the top station for excellent views.

The track starts off wide but thins out towards the end. It may appear that there is no track, but we promise it is there.

Shortly afterwards the track splits, BEAR LEFT on to the lower, left hand track.

When you see a sign for the Witches Trail, 10 Under the Ben Track, follow this.

The trail will now take you to the Nevis Range Ski Centre.

Anreise mit der Bahn, dem Auto, zu Fuß oder mit dem Rad

All normal cycle equipment and outdoor gear is required, including a helmet, gloves and a wind-break layer. Even if it doesn’t appear necessary ensure you bring enough warm and waterproof clothes as weather conditions can change quickly.

Padded shorts are recommended, as saddle pain takes the fun away very quickly!

Be sure to bring a bottle of water and a snack in case you find yourself a long way from the shops.
